Mixology, gin & whisky tastings.

We regularly run our in house Mixology lessons, gin tastings and whisky classes, all of which could be used to great effect for team building or simply a great night out. The classes are interactive with plenty of opportunities for people to get to know each other, from sampling some of the finest gins and whiskies around to getting up behind the bar for themselves to make a cocktail, our classes are ideal to bring any team or friends closer together. Our mixology classes come in at £25 per person, and we have a range of different gin and whisky tastings for you to choose from, at varying prices. At weekends, the Mixology classes can start no later than 5.30pm and must have a minimum of 7 people partaking. Throughout the weekdays there is greater scope for flexibility both in terms of numbers attending and starting times. The Gin and Whisky tastings are in a similar boat although on week days they can start as late as 7pm.

Orchid has won many awards since it's opening in 2009 including Cocktail Bar of the Year at the 2012 SLTN Awards. Our Mixology classes are designed to be of the highest standard as well as engaging and highly enjoyable. The class run's through a brief history of cocktails from the first definition in 1806, to modern day technology and mixed drinks. Each guest will be taken through the different techniques of making drinks, reasons behind them and the basics of cocktail making. Not only this but there will be 3 cocktails per guest through- out the class as well as opportunities to sample some of the best loved classic cocktails around and hear the stories behind them.

Gin Tasting classes are a great way to increase your understanding of this unique spirit while enjoying all it has to offer from juniper to orris root. Each guest will be greeted with a gin and tonic on arrival before being taken on a journey of the history, production, and tasting of four different styles of gin. In addition, there will be a small summary on tonic and the role and effect that it has on Gin.

Our Whisky Tasting classes take you on a full whisky journey. From the history of this versatile and complex spirit to the production methods and ageing techniques. Each guest attending will be taken through five different whiskies to smell, feel, and taste, explaining as we go the characteristics of each style and the journey from field to glass.
